Formula used

ACV = Replacement cost − (Replacement cost × Depreciation%)

Net claim = min(ACV, Coverage limit) − Deductible

Example: $50,000 cost, 20% depreciation, $5,000 deductible, $100,000 limit → ACV $40,000, net claim $35,000.

Frequently asked questions

What is Actual Cash Value (ACV)?

ACV is the replacement cost of an item minus depreciation for its age and condition. Many insurance policies pay out based on ACV rather than full replacement cost.

How is the net claim amount calculated?

The Actual Cash Value is capped at your coverage limit (if any), then your deductible is subtracted. The result, floored at zero, is the estimated net claim.

What is a deductible?

A deductible is the amount you agree to pay out of pocket before your insurer covers the rest of a claim.

Is this the exact amount my insurer will pay?

No. This is an illustrative estimate. Your insurer's actual assessment depends on your specific policy terms, adjuster evaluation, and applicable regulations.
