FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why isn't this just cost × (1 + margin)?
Because margin is based on selling price, not cost — dividing (rather than multiplying by 1+margin, which would be a markup calc) correctly hits the target margin on the final price.
What happens if margin is 100% or more?
That's mathematically impossible for a margin-on-price calculation, so the calculator shows an error.
How is margin different from markup here?
Margin is profit as % of selling price; markup is profit as % of cost — use the Markup Calculator if that's what you meant.
