Frequently asked questions

Why is batting average shown with 3 decimal places and no leading zero?

That's the traditional baseball convention — e.g. .300 rather than 0.300 or 30%.

Can hits exceed at-bats?

No — hits can't be more than the number of at-bats, so please check your inputs if you see an unexpected result.

Does this work for cricket too?

The batting-average concept differs in cricket (runs ÷ dismissals, not hits ÷ at-bats) — for cricket strike rate, this site also has a dedicated tool.

What's considered a good batting average?

In baseball, .300 or higher is generally considered a strong batting average at most levels of play.
