Frequently asked questions

Why is file size multiplied by 8?

Because file sizes are measured in megabytes (MB) but connection speeds are measured in megabits (Mbps) — there are 8 bits in a byte.

Does this account for real-world overhead?

No, it's a theoretical estimate — actual speeds are often lower due to network overhead and congestion.

Can I use this for uploads too?

Yes, the same formula applies — just use your upload speed instead.

What if my file size is in GB?

Convert it to MB first (1 GB = 1024 MB), or use the Unit Converter.
